Fowler's double-double delivers a scare to #19 WPI

Engineers survive Seahawks' upset bid, 58-56

NEWPORT, R.I. -- Salve Regina University men's basketball graduate student Brad Fowler posted a double-double (15 points, 13 rebounds) but to no avail as #19 WPI won, 58-56, in NEWMAC action at the Rodgers Recreation Center in Newport, Rhode Island, on Saturday afternoon.

History: These programs meet for the 23rd time in men's basketball and fourth time as fellow NEWMAC members. WPI has won five in a row including all three during league competition. In his first Seahawk start, Salve Regina's Pat Spenard scored a career-best 20 points on 6-for-10 from the floor and 7-of-8 at the free throw line, but then #11 WPI engineered an 86-65 win in the NEWMAC opener at the Harrington Auditorium. Today begins the back eight trip through the league schedule. WPI leads the all-time series, 16- 6, while Salve Regina won four straight from 1999 through 2001.
