MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (Tuesday, November 11, 2025)-- Salve Regina University men's ice hockey jumped to a 5-0 lead against Rivier University before the Raiders were able to score in the Seahawks 9-3 victory at Howard Rink midweek.
Prior to the game the team honored Veteran's day with a ceremonial puck drop by Commander Anselm T. W. Richards. Richards is a 1992 graduate of Salve Regina University and was a student-athlete on the men's basketball and sailing teams. He received his Master of Science, Administration of Justice in 2016 and is currently working on his Ph.D. in Humanities from Salve.
In January 2005 he was Deployed with B Troop, 1/104th Cavalry to Ar Ramadi, Iraq, as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom IV. During which he served as Armored Platoon Leader, leading 27 soldiers, four HMMWVs, and two M1A1 tanks in combat operations. In February 2007 he was appointed Commander, A Troop 1/104th Cavalry and Captain, First City Troop and in 2008 he was deployed to the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, commanding A Troop 1/104th Cavalry as part of Multinational Force and Observers 51, supporting the Camp David Peace Accords all before retiring from the U.S. Army Reserves in 2023. He is currently an ROTC Instructor at Salve Regina and Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 406, in Newport.
Parker Mabbett was the first Seahawk to strike just three minutes into the game.
Logan Calder,
Cade DeStefani,
Evan Grobanopoulos and
Jonathan Hammel all added in before the visitor was able to find the back of the net.
Aidan Coupe and
Aidan Connolly notched a pair of goals in the second quarter before Grobanopoulos and DeStefani closed out the game with goals in the third. Grobanopoulos achieved his first collegiate goals in today's contest.
