Saints get consolation with win over Seahawks

Neary (17) and Linscott (14) lead Salve Regina on the scoreboard

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Salve Regina University junior captain Deanna Linscott (Pembroke, Mass.) was perfect from the floor (7-for-7) to score 14 points in an 85-69 loss to St. Lawrence University in the consolation game of the Hampton Inn Holiday Classic hosted by Western New England at the Anthony S. Caprio Alumni Healthful Living Center in Springfield, Mass., on Saturday afternoon.

The Saints (4-1) led by as many as 30 in the third quarter before the Seahawks (2-5) had an 8-0 run in the final quarter to trim the deficit.

Both teams had been defeated on Friday night, the Seahawks fell to the hosts who went on to capture their own tournament title with a 65-62 victory over Connecticut College. The Camels advanced to the title game with a win over St. Lawrence last night.

Frankie Spadorcia (Braintree, Mass.) grabbed seven rebounds, six off the defensive glass, while blocking five shots and scoring nine points. Senior captain Sofia Neary (Wayne, N.J.) led the Seahawks with 17 while hauling in eight boards, four on each end. The Saints did snap Neary's double-double streak at four games.
