NEWPORT, R.I.- #2/#3 Salve Regina University hosted the University of Southern Maine in Kingston, Rhode Island, at Bill Beck Field on Friday afternoon. The Seahawks won 13-1 to improve 3-0 on the season while the Huskies (0-1) drop their season-opener under first-year head coach Scott Heath.

All-Time Series: First-ever meeting in baseball between Salve Regina University and the University of Southern Maine came in the 2001 NCAA Division III Regionals in Harwichport, Massachusetts. Huskies downed the Seahawks, 5-3. Salve Regina earned its first victory in the series, 9-2, when they met in Auburndale, Florida, in 2016. Two years later another Lake Myrtle Park meeting tipped in the Huskies' favor, 3-2. Salve Regina also traveled to Gorham, Maine, for the first time ever in 2018 and fell, 8-6. Since then, the Seahawks have won eight straight including a 2021 NCAA regional matchup in Hartford, Connecticut, 5-4, and the following spring break in the Sunshine State, 8-3. In 2023 at Ed Flaherty Field, Salve Regina swept a pair, 2-1 and 8-4. Last year at Bill Beck Field, Salve Regina swept a three-game series. Seahawks lead the all-time series, 9-3.
