Thoroughbreds overcome Seahawks 4-3 in NEHC Quarterfinal OT

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (Saturday, March 1, 2025)-- Salve Regina University men's ice hockey ended the 2024-25 season with a 4-3 overtime loss to Skidmore College on the road in the NEHC Quarterfinals.

Records: Salve Regina (12-11-3 NEHC), Skidmore (14-12-0 NEHC)
History: To end the regular season men's ice hockey went 1-1 against Skidmore. On Saturday, February 15, Salve picked up a 4-3 win after Matthew Brunton scored the game winning goal with five minutes to go in regulation. The next day Skidmore won 6-2. Skidmore leads the all-time series history 8-3.

NOTEWORTHY:
  • Skidmore's Cooper Rice achieved a hat trick, scoring both the host's first goal and the game winner at 7:49 in the overtime period. Postseason overtime play consists of a full 20 minute OT period, sudden victory style.
  • Quinn Tavares found the back of the net in Salve Regina's first scoring play of the evening five minutes into the second period with a pass from Matthew Brunton and Brendan Kim.
  • At 1:31 in the third period Logan Calder tied the game up 2-2 with an unassisted snipe. While Skidmore would once again find the lead 3-2, Tavares scored his second goal of the night with less than two minutes to go in regulation, forcing an overtime period.
  • Skidmore outshot Salve Regina 44-29. 
  • Selby Warren made 40 saves in 67:39 on the ice.
ON THE HORIZON
Salve Regina men's ice hockey ends the season in the NEHC Quarterfinals. Skidmore advances to the Final Four round of the tournament with the Semifinals on Saturday, March 8, and the Finals on Sunday, March 9, all hosted by the highest remaining seed.
