#7/#8 Seahawks come up short against Warriors, 5-4

NEWPORT, R.I. (Thursday, March 27, 2025) -- Trailing 5-0 and batting in the bottom of the seventh, the #7/#8 Salve Regina University baseball team scored four times in the last three frames but came up short and fell, 5-4, to visiting Eastern Connecticut State University in non-league action at Reynolds Field on Thursday afternoon.

Salve Regina (12-4) managed just three hits against three Warrior pitchers and all four runs scored by the Seahawks were unearned. Francis Ferguson (W, 1-1) kept the Seahawks off the board while just allowing two base hits in his six innings. Matthew Wootton (S,2) inherited a bases-loaded, two-out situation in the seventh before two Seahawks reached on back-to-back fielding miscues to allow three runs. A passed ball in the ninth also led to the fourth Seahawk unearned run. With the tying run at third base in the ninth, Wootton induced the final Seahawk batter to ground out to second base.
