Seahawks, Bears split at Toppa twinbill

Alex Kelly passes 300 K milestone

NEWPORT, R.I. (Friday, April 25, 2025) -- Salve Regina University softball senior pitcher Alex Kelly (W, 7-4) surpassed the 300-strikeout milestone with her first-inning K and the Seahawks won the NEWMAC opener, 7-3, against United States Coast Guard Academy at Toppa Field on Friday afternoon. The Bears took the nightcap, 3-1, behind the five-hit pitching performance of Dana Walker (W, 10-5).

Seniors Sam Franceschi, Morganti Bello, and Emily Lane each collected two hits in the opener. Lane added another pair in the nightcap.

History: Today marks the 27th and 28th all-time meetings between Salve Regina and Coast Guard on the softball diamond, and third and fourth as fellow NEWMAC members. The Bears lead the all-time series, 17-11, on the strength of winning the last eight straight and 12 of the last 13 meetings coming into today. Last year in New London, Connecticut, Seahawks had doubles from Morganti Bello, Olivia Saccoccio, and Emily Cronin, plus a home run from Emily Lane, in an 8-7 loss to the Bears in Game One. Coast Guard took Game Two by a 5-2 score. Dana Walker picked up the victories in both games.
