MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (Saturday, April 26, 2025)-- Salve Regina University men's lacrosse finished the regular season with a 16-10 loss to the visiting Massachusetts Institute of Technology Engineers at Gaudet Field, and will advance to the postseason as the No.4 seed.
Although the Engineers claimed an opening face off win Seahawks' Heath Sumwalt was the first to fire off a shot 45 seconds into the game. MIT saw the first points of the day but Salve Regina and MIT were side by side until late in the second quarter when the visitor took a three-goal lead 9-6 going into halftime.
The last 15 minutes of the contest proved to be the turning point for the Engineers when they were able to convert six unanswered goals to stretch their lead from 10-8 to 16-8 before the Seahawks netted the last two goals of the day.
Junior Chris Koltzan scored half of Salve Regina's goals, followed by Liam Cooney and Mason Barbone who each provided two.

History: The first meeting between the Engineers and Seahawks was a 6-4 loss for the Salve Regina in 2008. Last year SRU fell 25-10 to MIT on the road on April 27, 2024.
NOTEWORTHY
- Salve Regina goalie Andrew Hazard made 16 saves and picked up four ground balls.
- FOGO Justin Haverly controlled a total of 13 ground balls and went 18-26.
- Jack Naglieri ends the season as the leader in ground balls (67) and caused turnovers (27).
- Chris Koltzan finishes the season as the Seahawks' leading goal scorer with 42.

Men's lacrosse advances to the NEWMAC Quarterfinals on Tuesday, April 29. As the No. 4 seed Salve Regina will host the No.5 seed United States Coast Guard Academy at Gaudet Field. The updated postseason schedule is as follows:
