No.7 seed Seahawks end season with NEWMAC Quarterfinal loss

CAIMBRIDGE, Mass. (Saturday, April 26, 2025)-- The No.7 seed Salve Regina University women's lacrosse team ended their season in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals with a 21-3 loss to the No.2 seed Massachusetts Institute of Technology on the road on Saturday. 

MIT was the first to score but by the 11:26 mark in the first quarter Cameron Baston matched the Engineers efforts to make it a 1-1 game. Yet again after another MIT goal, Kayli Garcia kept the Seahawks momentum going to tie the game 2-2 with her 19th goal of the season at 9:22 in quarter one.

The Engineers broke away with a run across the second and third quarters to jump ahead 17-2 before allowing Delia Tarasco to find the back of the net with her second goal of the year, the Seahawks' final goal of the day, near the end of the third period.

Salve Regina ended the regular season with a three-game winning streak by besting Mount Holyoke 11-8, Clark University 15-8 and Emerson College 18-14 before facing MIT today in the postseason.

History: The Seahawks and the Engineers met this year during the regular season at MIT's Jack Barry field and the host claimed a 19-3 win. Daniella Bruno scored two of the Seahawks' goals and Edie Threshie netted her 23rd goal of the season. Last year MIT won 19-6 at Gaudet Field on April 13, 2024.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Flynn Kayajan appeared in her 15th game as a Seahawk and made 11 saves. She ends the season with 164 saves. Kayajan lead the team in ground balls with 43 in 2025.
  • Edie Threshie ends the season as Salve Regina's leading scorer with 34 goals and nine assists for 43 total points.
  • Adelaide Baird caused 19 turnovers this year as the team's leader.
  • Cameron Baston had 30 draw controls this season at the top of the category for Salve in 2025.

ON THE HORIZON
Salve Regina ends the 2025 season with today's quarterfinal verdict. MIT advances to the NEWMAC Semifinals against Springfield College at 6 p.m. on April 30.
