NCAA Super Regional | Williams' walk-off hit sends Seahawks to deciding game

Salve Regina rallies for three in ninth to win Game 2, 5-4

UNION, N.J. (Saturday, May 24, 2025) -- Salve Regina University baseball survived its first elimination game of its NCAA Super Regional with Kean University after rallying for three runs in the bottom of the ninth against previously unbeaten Jason Gilman (L, 13-1). Trailing 4-2, the Seahawks (36-8) loaded the bases with no outs before Evan O'Rourke bounced a two-run single to tie the score at 4-4. Christian Homa singled to reload the bags and Shane Williams lifted a high and deep single to center to bring Brandon Grover home with the winning run.

Andrew Wertz (W, 4-0) picked up the win in relief of three previous Seahawk pitchers -- starter Kyle Carozza, Joe DeRienzo, and Jason Arrigo.
GAME 3 - KEAN 5, SALVE REGINA 2 - RECAP
Game two of the series started off similarly to game one, with both pitchers keeping things under control early, allowing no runs.

Dominic Masino singled to right center off Seahawk starter Kyle Carozza before the junior righty struck out the next three Cougars in the top of the first. Gilman got a 1-2-3 bottom of the frame.

Shane Williams led off the Seahawk second with a walk and moved to second on a Wil McCarthy sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Tyler Petrosino took an 0-1 pitch off the hip before he and Williams both stole bases to advance to second and third. Gilman got a grounder to end the threat.

Carozza had his only 1-2-3 frame in the top of the third. Evan O'Rourke had the first Seahawk hit off Gilman in the bottom of the third.

The Cougars (39-9) scratched across a single run in the fourth as Tyler Stone registered a one-out single. Later with two outs, Dan Reistle found open space in right with a double and Stone scored all the way from first for a 1-0 early lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Salve Regina (36-8) took the lead. Hunter Yaworski led off with an opposite-field single. After a fielder's choice grounder by Petrosino, Shea Donovan reached on an infield single deep to the left side. Grady Schopps legged out a fielder's choice grounder to short that erased Petrosino at third. On an 0-2 pitch, Brandon Grover drilled a two-out double, driving in Donovan and Schopps, for a 2-1 score.

The see-saw affair ensued and the Cougars regained the lead in the top of the eighth. Masino lined a one-out double and Kyle Adorno and Stone walked to load the bases. CJ Tomalavage worked a walk on four straight pitches to tie things up at 2-2. Reistle, who was hit five times during the course of the day, notched an RBI with a hit-by-pitch, to put Kean ahead. Brett Hilsheimer added one more on an RBI single for a 4-2 Cougar advantage.

In the pivotal bottom of the ninth, Donovan led off with a five-pitch walk. Matt Stokes battled from behind, 1-2, in his pinch-hit appearance against Gilman, who allowed Donovan to reach second on a wild throw before issuing a base on balls to Stokes. Grover laid down a bunt and loaded the bases with no outs on a rare Kean miscue. O'Rourke delivered the game-tying, two-run single with a high hopper over third baseman Hilsheimer. After another single by Christian Homa loaded the bases, Shane Williams forced the winner-take-all matchup with a long single to center on an 0-2 pitch.
