Salve Regina football ready for 10-game regular season slate

NEWPORT, R.I. (Friday, August 15, 2025) -- Salve Regina University football has released the 2025 schedule beginning with the season opener on Saturday, September 6, against UMass Dartmouth at noon on the turf of Toppa Field.

The 10-game slate features five home games at the historic venue in Freebody Park. The Seahawks finished 2024, the team's second NEWMAC season, 6-4 overall and 5-2 in conference. Tickets for any and all home games at Toppa Field may be purchased online at HOMETOWN [https://bit.ly/Seahawk-Tickets].

"We have had some great success in the last couple of years," says Seahawk head coach Kevin Gilmartin whose squad has won 29 (including the 2023 New England Bowl) and lost a dozen in the last four season. "But this is a new year and with that come some new challenges and a lot of new players. We open up the season against a team that had an undefeated regular season in 2024 (the Corsairs) and then after our other non-conference games, we head into our highly competitive NEWMAC slate. Who knows what it will bring, but it should be exciting!"

The Seahawks and Corsairs re-engage their rivalry on the gridiron for the first time since 2012 when Salve Regina won 51-27 on the road. Salve Regina and UMass Dartmouth met 15 consecutive seasons (1998 through 2012) as members of the New England Football Conference (NEFC); Seahawks have won the last four meetings while the Corsairs narrowly lead the series, 8-7.

Next up, the Golden Bears of Western New England University visit Newport on September 13 for the 31st all-time meeting in football. Salve Regina leads, 16-14, in the all-time series with Western New England who has competed with the Seahawks across three conference affiliations - Eastern College Football Conference (ECFC), New England Football Conference (NEFC), and Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).

Seahawks and Pioneers meet for the second time ever and first since 2014 when William Paterson University hosts Salve Regina in Wayne, New Jersey, on September 20 (1 p.m.).

New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contests begin the next weekend with Salve Regina hosting SUNY Maritime. The Seahawks own a 3-2 mark in the all-time series with the Privateers with the home team winning all five meetings. Salve Regina won in 2006 (21-15) and 2008 (46-14) at Toppa Field (when it was a natural grass surface) and then set program records with a 49-0 final against SUNY Maritime in their first NEWMAC meeting in 2023 on the Toppa turf.
