Tigers claw their way to victory over Seahawks

First ever meeting between Salve Regina and East Texas Baptist

NEWPORT, R.I. -- East Texas Baptist University women's basketball swept its two-game series in New England by scoring an 81-46 victory over Salve Regina University in non-league action on Saturday afternoon at the Rodgers Recreation Center. Both teams had defeated the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Conn., earlier in the week -- the Seahawks (6-8) won 71-65 on Tuesday and the Tigers (14-4) enjoyed an 83-53 triumph on Thursday.

East Texas Baptist had 10 players with five or more points led by three Tigers in double figures -- Anna Beamesderfer (Kempner, Texas), Tiffany Bickford (San Diego, Calif.), and Macey Jones (Tylertown, Miss.) -- with 12, 11, and 10, respectively.

Salve Regina had a dozen players contribute points led by freshman Frankie Spadorcia (Braintree, Mass.) with her season-best 10-point effort. The Seahawks edged the Tigers on the boards, 32-to-31, led by senior Marissa Forino (Watertown, Conn.) with five rebounds on the defensive glass. Reagan Eilers (Cypress, Texas) led all players with seven caroms.
