MIDDLETOWN, R.I. -- Salve Regina University men's ice hockey broke a 1-1 stalemate with three unanswered goals in the third period to cruse to a 5-2 victory over the visiting Salem State University Vikings on Tuesday night at Howard Rink.
Salve Regina struck first in the opening frame when
Jonathan Hammel netted a power-play goal at 11:33 of the first period, giving the Seahawks early momentum. Salem State responded late in the period to tie the game, but it was all Salve Regina from there.
Thomas Gerum put Salve ahead with a goal at the beginning of the third period, assisted by
Brendan Abban and
Kiernan Poulin.
Jacob Bramwell extended the lead shortly thereafter with a goal assisted by
Karsten Kruska.
Logan Calder kept the momentum rolling with a tally just seconds later, set up by
Matthew Brunton. Late in the frame,
Aidan Connolly capped the scoring with an empty-net goal to make it 5–2.

Selby Warren put a stop to 21 shots and helping Salve maintain am edge throughout the contest. Salve Regina outshot Salem State 59-23. Meanwhile, the Seahawks won the battle in the faceoff circle and controlled possession for much of the night.
