Seahawks, Cougars scoreless draw in Worcester

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Salve Regina University men's soccer finished with a scoreless draw at Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Wednesday night.

The Seahawks (4-7-5, 1-4-2 NEWMAC) had the overall shot advantage in each half (9-to-4 in the first 45; both teams upped their attempts in the second for a 14-to-8 Salve Regina edge), but the Cougars (3-6-7, 1-3-4 NEWMAC) matched them for shots on goal (four each).

Jaime Pedraza (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) made four stops between the posts for Clark University while Adonis Santiago (Oakdale, Conn.) had the same total for Salve Regina.

Ty Ferris (Ridgewood, N.J.) led the Seahawks with four shots and Myles Nelson-Atkins (Seattle, Wash.) topped the Cougars with four attempts. Zach Brown (Stow, Mass.) and Shahmeer Waseem (Newtown, Pa.) each had two on frame for their respective squads.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Final: Salve Regina 0, Clark 0
Records: Salve Regina (4-7-5, 1-4-2 NEWMAC), Clark (3-6-7, 1-3-4 NEWMAC)
History: Overall, the Cougars and Seahawks are now tied, 3-3-1, in the all-time series that began in 1983.

SUMMARY
  • No scoring.
NOTEWORTHY
  • Salve Regina had the overall shot advantage (nearly twice as many, 23-to-12), but the teams were even in shots on goal (four each).
  • Salve Regina, currently with five points in the conference standings, needs a win in its final regular-season game (Sat. versus WPI, 6 p.m. at Toppa Field) and either losses or ties by Springfield and Emerson in their respective final contests to secure a spot in the NEWMAC postseason.
  • Clark has completed its regular season and needs the same losses for Springfield and Emerson plus a WPI victory or draw.
  • WPI currently stands in fifth place (top six make the postseason) with eight points. A Seahawk victory Saturday would equal that point total and give Salve Regina the spot over WPI with the head-to-head outcome.
ON THE HORIZON
Salve Regina closes out its regular season with a home game against the Engineers of WPI on Saturday in Newport, R.I., with a 6 p.m. broadcast on FloCollege.
