NEWPORT, R.I. (October 9, 2026) – Salve Regina University men's and women's tennis hosted their annual "Clash on the Grass" event at the Tennis Hall of Fame on Friday, October 9, 2026, with three other schools joining the Seahawks for a full day of mixed doubles on the historic setting.

2026 CLASH ON THE GRASS TEAM SCORING
SCHOOL A B C TOTAL
Roger Williams 4 7 6 17
Colby-Sawyer 9 4 2 15
Salve Regina 1 4 4 9
Bridgewater State 1 0 3 4

Each school had two mixed doubles pairs in three flights and 45 matches were played. Each of the three flights featured two pods of four pairs with the top team in each pod advancing to face the other in a flight final.

All matches were first to win six games with a tiebreaker if a set was equal at five-all. In games that went deuce with no-ad scoring, if a female was serving the deciding point the returner was also the female on the other side and likewise for the male participants.

Each match win was worth one point in team scoring while a flight champion added two points to their overall score and the flight runners-up earned an extra point as well.

In Flight A, Colby-Sawyer College produced the finalists from their respective pods. Chargers Alessio Dambrosi and Justine Porowski defeated teammates Oliver Gore and Skylar Jara, 6-2. The four Chargers totaled nine points in the flight.

In Flight B, three pairs went 2-1 in their three matches for a three-way tie on that side of the pod. Colby-Sawyer's Leonardo Brezzi and Maria Espinosa Lopez totaled 17 games won across their round robin play to advance to the pod final. The Chargers fell 6-2 to the Roger Williams duo of Will Hurlbut and Ella Mancini in the Flight B final.

In Flight C, host Salve Regina emerged as finalists with Sophia Padro and Max Varian taking two of their three round robin matches to match the win total of Bridgewater State's Ryan Abreu and Maeve Snyder. The Seahawk pair had scored a 6-1 win over the Bear duo for the head-to-head tiebreaker. Four different Hawks (Meg Bache, Claire Dwyer, Sohaan Jagasia, Jeremy Linker) contributed to an unblemished round robin result before Dwyer and Jagasia took a 6-4 decision against Padro and Varian.

With their two flight championship wins, Roger Williams totaled 19 points for the team championship, repeating as "Clash on the Grass" title winners in the first year the event featured mixed doubles play.
