  • Thursday's game will be the first in the NEWMAC playoffs for the Seahawks. 
LAST MEETING
  • Three Seahawks -- Sean Seymour (Albany, N.Y.), Jack McMullen (East Greenwich, R.I.), and Pat Spenard (Rochester, Mass.) -- scored in double figures as Salve Regina University men's basketball defeated the Cougars of Clark University, 75-70, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at the Kneller Athletic Center, to sweep the season series.
  • Seymour led all players with 23 points and had a team-high eight rebounds. McMullen made four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points. Spenard sank 5-of-8 from the floor, including two behind the arc, and added a free throw for 13 points.
THE ONE BEFORE THAT
  • Salve Regina University men's basketball made over 55 percent of its field goal attempts to score a 15-point win (70-55) over the visiting Cougars of Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at the Rodgers Recreation Center.
  • Jack Margoupis (Sutton, Mass.) led all players with 20 points on 8-of-15 from the floor while three other Seahawks (10-2, 3-0 NEWMAC) posted double-digit points -- Pat Spenard (Rochester, Mass.) and Sean Seymour (Albany, N.Y.) both finished with 15 and Domenic Malvey (Newton, N.H.) added 10.
  • The Cougars (7-6, 2-2 NEWMAC), who came into the game 11-0 all-time against the Seahawks in a series that began in 1984, were led by a pair that scored a dozen points each -- sophomore Boluwasefe John (Corona, N.Y.) and senior Reid Neumann (Burbank, Calif.).
SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
  • Salve Regina enters the NEWMAC Tournament after posting 11 regular season victories in the league, including a win over No. 1 WPI.
  • The Seahawks swept the Cougars in the regular season with their first and second wins ever against Clark.
  • The Seahawks average 72.0 points, 35.4 rebounds, 13.2 assists, 6.6 steals, and force 11.4 turnovers per night.
  • Jack Margoupis leads Salve Regina with an average of 20.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. In NEWMAC wins against MIT and Emerson, the junior reached the 30-point plateau.
  • Sean Seymour adds 16.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per night, with the 16.4 points ranking sixth in the league. Seymour is shooting 46.6 percent from the floor and connected on 28 three-pointers. He has scored 20 or more points in eight different games, including a season-high 26 points against MIT.
  • Pat Spenard also records 13.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Spenard is shooting 56.3 percent from the floor and has made a team-high 74 free throws. He reached double-figures in 22 games this season and posted a 20 point/16 rebound game against Springfield.
  • Jack McMullen lead the Seahawks on the boards with 6.2 rebounds per game, including 130 on the defensive glass (32 more than any other teammate).
  • McMullen also made the most 3-pointers of any Seahawk (39) entering tonight's game, shooting at a .379 clip from long range.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS 
  • Clark earned a spot in the NEWMAC Tournament after winning seven conference games, including victories over No. 1 WPI and No. 2 Babson.
  • The Cougars average 74.5 points, 35.7 rebounds, 13.9 assists, 8.0 steals, and force 15.9 turnovers per game.
  • First-year Aliaun Iscandari leads the team in points per game (18.2), which also ranks third in the conference. He has scored at least 20 points in 10 games this season, has reached 25 or more points five times, and scored a conference-high 37 points in a victory over MIT. Iscandari shoots 47.1 percent from the floor, which ranks fifth in the league. He also adds 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals per contest.
  • Sophomore Boluwasefe John is averaging 15.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, and 1.4 steals per game. The forward leads the conference in field goal percentage (58.0). He ranks fourth in the conference in both blocks and rebounds per night and seventh in steals per contest. John posted four double-doubles, including a 16 point and 13 rebound effort against Babson.
  • Senior Reid Neumann is adding 12.6 points per night and ranks second in the NEWMAC in made three-pointers with 80. The senior reached the 1,000-point club earlier this season against Wheaton. Neumann has hit at least four three-pointers in nine different contests, including a season-high six against WestConn.
  • Junior Kyle Squires is also averaging in double-figures with 10.1 points per contest and has connected on 57 three-pointers, which ranks seventh in the NEWMAC. He hit at least five three-pointers four times this season and buried a season-high six triples at WestConn.
  • Fellow junior Quentin Pridgen leads the team in rebounds (8.0) and assists (5.7) per night, while adding 9.2 points. His 5.7 assists per contest leads the NEWMAC and his 8.0 rebounds rank third in the conference. Pridgen's 1.6 assist/turnover ratio ranks fifth in the league. He dished out 10 assists in two games, grabbed 10 or more rebounds five times, and scored 10 or more points on seven occasions.
TOURNAMENT TESTED
  • While this is Salve Regina's first foray into NEWMAC postseason, the Seahawks had recent success in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (now Conference of New England) with a title game appearance in 2022 against Nichols College.
  • The Seahawks have three conference banners in their history (2011, 1995, 1989).
  • Through its last CCC postseason game in 2023 (a 76-69 loss at Western New England), Salve Regina is 29-28 all-time in conference playoff action.
STREAKING INTO THE POSTSEASON
  • The Cougars have lost six straight since an 86-76 victory over top-seeded WPI on January 28. 
NUMBERS TO KNOW
  • With a win tonight, Salve Regina men's basketball will reach the 19 victory mark for the sixth time in program history. 
UP NEXT
  • The winner of Thursday's quarterfinal will play at second-seeded Babson College in Friday's semifinal game. No. 4 Wheaton advances to a semifinal at No. 1 WPI after the Lyons rallied against the No. 5 Springfield College Pride to win 60-52 on Wednesday evening in Norton, Massachusetts.
