Seahawks, Huskies resume slugfest on Tuesday with Salve Regina exerting 10-run rule in seven innings

Weather had halted play late in Monday's battle

AUBURNDALE, Fla. (March 17, 2026) - Salve Regina's offense wasted little time asserting control and never let up, rolling past the University of Southern Maine, 21–11, in a high-scoring, momentum-filled contest Monday at the RussMatt Invitational in Auburndale, Florida.

The Seahawks set the tone immediately, erupting for five runs across the first two innings to seize an early advantage. A run-scoring single and a sacrifice fly highlighted a three-run first, and Salve Regina continued to manufacture offense in the second with a triple and another sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 5–0.

Southern Maine briefly stemmed the tide with a run in the third, but Salve Regina answered in the fourth, capitalizing on a defensive miscue and productive outs to push the margin to 7–1. The Seahawks' ability to score without relying solely on extra-base hits—using walks, hit batters, and situational hitting—proved decisive throughout the afternoon.

The game broke open in the middle innings. Salve Regina plated three more runs in the sixth, aided by a fielder's choice RBI, a passed ball, and a run-scoring single, stretching the lead to 10–1. Another multi-run frame in the seventh effectively put the contest out of reach as the Seahawks continued to pressure Southern Maine's pitching staff.

In all, Salve Regina's lineup produced a relentless offensive performance, scoring in multiple innings and taking advantage of free passes and defensive lapses. The Seahawks' depth was evident, with contributions scattered throughout the order rather than relying on a single standout performance.

Despite the lopsided final score, Southern Maine showed resilience by continuing to battle at the plate and eventually reaching double digits in runs, turning the game into an offensive slugfest rather than a quiet blowout.

The victory capped a productive stretch for Salve Regina during its Florida trip, as the Seahawks continued to build momentum with consistent run production and opportunistic play.
