NEWPORT, R.I. (April 14, 2026) -- The University of Southern Maine softball team visited Newport for the first time ever and left with a sweep of Salve Regina University in non-league Division III action at Toppa Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Huskies (17-8) won the opener in five innings, 10-1, and then posted a 7-1 victory in the nightcap. Junior
Emma Plourde (Stratham, N.H.), who played catcher in the opener and then designated player/first base in the nightcap, scored both runs for the Seahawks (3-23) on the day after going 3-for-5 at the plate.
Salve Regina managed four singles off Southern Maine rightyÂ
Mackenzie Kingsbury (Woodsville, N.H.) in the opener as freshman infielder
Taylor Ferraiolo (Madison, Conn.) driving in Plourde with a second-inning single to center field.
The Seahawks were blanked by Game Two starter
Mia Coots (Hartland, Maine) until
Skyla Oliveira (Smithfield, R.I.) singled sharply to right field with the bases loaded. Salve Regina left the bases loaded after scoring its lone run with one out. The Seahawks left 11 on base in the nightcap after a half dozen were stranded in the opener.
Olivia Levasseur (Amesbury, Mass.) struck the big blow in Game Two after two scoreless frames with a bases-clearing double for a 3-0 lead in the top of the third.
Ella Bezanson (Amesbury) andÂ
Taylor Takatsu (West Gardiner, Maine) each drove in a pair of Huskies in the opener as leadoff hitter
