Brady Smolinski (North Grafton, Mass.) each had a first-inning RBI as No. 3-ranked Salve Regina University took an early 3-0 lead at Rhode Island College and added two in the fifth, one in the sixth, and seven more in the ninth, to finish with a 13-1 win in non-league action against the Anchormen at Pontarelli Field on Thursday afternoon. Carrick Ryan (Durham, N.C.) pitched five innings in relief to pick up his third win of the season (W, 3-0).
The Seahawks (24-3)Â Â have now reached double-figure runs in 17 of their 26 games this season. Salve Regina bashed a season-high eight doubles with two each from Williams and Rogers.
Sophomore designated hitter
Dylan Cimini (Stonington, Conn.) went 4-for-5 for the second straight game and now has homered in back-to-back games. Williams collected two doubles among his career-high five base hits, a mark last reached by a Seahawk in 2023 by
Christian Homa (5/11/2023).
After being staked to a 3-0 advantage,
Jakob Oliver (Ramsey, N.J.) pitched two scoreless frames while striking out three of the seven Anchormen he faced. Ryan followed with three-hit ball over his five innings before
Liam Scholl (Brunswick, Maine) and
Hunter Alten (Chatham, Mass.) took care of the final six outs.
After Cimini led off the fifth with a first-pitch home run, Williams followed with a double to right center. Rogers doubled him home for a 5-0 Seahawk lead. Williams' double in the sixth raised the lead to 6-0.
Rogers, Smolinski, and
Grady Schopps (Fairfield, Conn.) loaded the bases in the ninth on a single, hit by pitch, and single, before
Matt Stokes (Summit, N.J.) doubled in a pair.Â
Jake Harring (Portsmouth, N.H.) doubled in Stokes and Schopps and then crossed the plate on Cimini's fourth hit of the game.
Andrew Schmit (Shrewsbury, Mass.) had a two-run double to bring in Cimini and Williams for the final score.
