MARLBOROUGH, Mass. - The NEWMAC has announced its Athlete of the Week honorees for the week ending April 26, 2026, and Salve Regina University junior Luis Ortiz Ramirez has been selected as the Pitcher of the Week for baseball.
Junior Luis Ortiz Ramirez (Boston, Mass.) pitched his first collegiate complete-game shutout on the road against Coast Guard on Saturday as No. 3-ranked Salve Regina swept the Bears with a 5-0 win in the nightcap. Ortiz Ramirez allowed just five singles and no walks, and induced three double plays while facing just three batters over the minimum (30).
Seahawk head coach Eric Cirella '05 on Ortiz Ramirez: "Luis was absolute nails for us this Saturday vs Coast Guard. It has been fun to watch him grow up and mature into an elite weekend starter, as he continues to pick us up and help us win important conference games. I hope he continues to build on these starts as we head into the conference playoffs and NCAA Regionals."
Salve Regina (29-4, 11-2 NEWMAC) finishes its regular season with a five-game week including three NEWMAC road games -- tomorrow versus MIT, and a Saturday twinbill against Emerson College -- all at Stein Diamond on the campus of Brandeis University. A pair of home games on Reynolds Field with UMass Boston visiting on Wednesday and last year's NCAA First Round opponent, Keene State College, coming to Newport on Sunday. All games scheduled to broadcast on FloCollege.
