Seahawks fall in non-league twinbill

Salve Regina takes 4-2 lead after four in nightcap before Starratt's 3-run HR catapults Roger Williams ahead

NEWPORT, R.I. (April 28, 2026) -- In their final home twinbill of the season, the Seahawks of Salve Regina University were swept by the visiting Hawks of Roger Williams University, 8-1 and 11-4, in non-league softball action at Toppa Field in Newport, Rhode Island, on Tuesday afternoon.

Salve Regina (3-33) took a 4-2 lead in the nightcap after three successive RBI doubles from Madeleine Oswald (Whippany, N.J.), Victoria Geisser (Scitutate, R.I.), and Skyla Oliveira (Smithfield, R.I.) in the fourth inning. Roger Williams (21-13) responded immediately as Hailey Williams (Vernon, Conn.) doubled to lead off the fifth and moved to third on Lucy Maurao's (Holliston, Mass.) infield single. Shannon Starratt (Lake George, N.Y.) homered to left field to put the Hawks back on top.

Williams went 6-for-10 at the plate in the doubleheader and scored five runs for the Hawks. In addition to her three-run homer, Starratt drove in two runs in the opener.

Three Seahawks collected two hits apiece across the 14 innings -- junior Emma Plourde (Stratham, N.H.) had a pair in the opener while freshmen Lillian Bridges (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) and Taylor Ferraiolo (Madison, Conn.), batting first and ninth, respectively, had their base hits in the nightcap. Plourde's sacrifice fly in the opener added to her team-leading RBI total, now 16. Bridges (3), Oliveira (1), and Ferraiolo (1) each swiped bases in the nightcap for the Seahawks.

Senior pitcher Caroline Peterson (Halifax, Mass.) took a turn in right field for fellow senior Skylar Wicklund (Riverhead, N.Y.) in the nightcap and later drove in her first career run with a fielder's choice grounder in the last inning.

Salve Regina concludes its regular season with a NEWMAC doubleheader in Boston, Mass., against Emerson College. Roger Williams has a non-league travel date tomorrow at Bridgewater State University before the Hawks play their final Conference of New England pair at Gordon College on Saturday.
