MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – The NEWMAC joins NCAA Division II and Division III conferences across the country in celebrating Officials Appreciation Week, taking place April 5–11, as part of a national initiative recognizing the essential contributions of collegiate officials.

Now in its fourth year, the Division III Commissioners Association (DIIICA) initiative honors officials across all sports throughout the academic year, with recognition periods in the fall, winter, and spring seasons. This week marks the final celebration of the 2025-2026 cycle, following observances in October and January.

Officials play a critical role in shaping the student-athlete experience, upholding the integrity of competition while ensuring contests are conducted safely and fairly. Their commitment, preparation, and consistency are foundational to the success of collegiate athletics, even as much of their impact happens outside the spotlight.

Throughout the week, NEWMAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representatives will recognize officials at select home events with small tokens of appreciation, including towels and patches. The conference will also highlight officials across spring sports on its website and social media channels.

"Officials play a vital role in collegiate athletics, and Officials Appreciation Week provides an important opportunity to recognize their dedication, preparation, and impact on our student-athletes and programs across the NEWMAC," said NEWMAC Executive Director Patrick B. Summers. 

Officials Appreciation Week is part of the DIIICA Strategic Plan for Collegiate Officiating, developed following a comprehensive review of the officiating landscape. In collaboration with the NCAA and the National Association of Sports Officials (NASO), the initiative also aims to address the growing demand for officials at all levels. Those interested in officiating can explore opportunities through the NCAA's Say Yes to Officiating platform.

In addition, NASO and DIIICA recently introduced Stay In the Game, a recruitment initiative designed to connect Division III student-athletes with officiating opportunities following their playing careers. Through the NASO GameSavers network, participants are paired with mentors and provided resources to begin their officiating journey and remain engaged in the game.
