Rodgers Recreation Center closed Tuesday, Feb. 24

NEWPORT, R.I.-- Rodgers Recreation Center will be closed Tuesday, Feb. 24. All in-person classes are canceled Tuesday, and on-campus university offices will move to remote operations.

Rodgers will reopen as soon as conditions on campus improve and it is safe to do so. The NEWMAC men's basketball Quarterfinal game which was originally scheduled for Tuesday, February 24, has been postponed to Wednesday, February 25, at 7 p.m. due to safety and travel concerns.

This historic blizzard has produced record-breaking snowfall and high winds across the island. A large tree on Victoria Avenue has fallen, affecting power to campus buildings south of Shepard Avenue. Some of the impacted buildings are operating on generators, but others remain without power. We are working closely with the city of Newport and Rhode Island Energy to ensure our campus is a top priority for power restoration.

Students should check their email and Canvas for updates from their instructors, which may include details for online class sessions.

Only essential staff should report to work. All other employees that are scheduled to work are expected to be available and work remotely to the best of their abilities. We acknowledge that the impact of the storm may vary depending on individual circumstances.
