Stokes stokes 10-run victory for #4 Seahawks with three doubles

After marathon victory, Salve Regina def. Emerson, 13-3, in Game Two

WALTHAM, Mass. (May 2, 2026) -- Senior infielder Matt Stokes (Summit, N.J.) drilled three doubles and drove in three runs as No. 4-ranked Salve Regina University baseball (33-4, 14-2 NEWMAC) completed a sweep of Emerson College with a 13-3 win in Game Two of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader at Stein Diamond on the Brandeis University campus in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Junior right hander Luis Ortiz Ramirez (Boston, Mass.) improved to 8-0 on the season with a seven-inning outing and just one earned run allowed while striking out nine Lions.

Senior catcher Brady Smolinski (North Grafton, Mass.) singled in Dylan Cimini (Stonington, Conn.) with a first-inning run. Grady Schopps (Fairfield, Conn.), Danny Rogers (New Canaan, Conn.), and Stokes contributed to a three-run fourth inning for the Seahawks with RBI base hits.

In the Emerson fourth, Vincent Fuller (Fort Collins, Colo.) hit the first of his two solo home runs in the contest (second came in the eighth).

Stokes led off the Seahawk sixth with a double and later scored on a Cimini ground out. A two-out single by Elliot Hamilton (Glastonbury, Conn.) was followed by a home run by Smolinski. Hamilton added an RBI single in the seventh.

Luke Ward (Needham, Mass.) led off the eighth and was hit by a pitch. After Evan O'Rourke (Arlington, Mass.) walked, Stokes also got plunked, loading the bases. Ward scored on a wild pitch. Cimini added a sacrifice fly for a 10-1 lead.

Nick Russo (Cedar Grove, N.J.) led off the ninth with a pinch-hit single to center field. Schopps and Stokes later added RBI doubles.

Salve Regina, who earned the league's top seed for the third straight season, plays one more non-league contest when the Seahawks host the Owls of Keene State College with a 1 p.m. first pitch on FloCollege.
