PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Salve Regina University women's volleyball team fought throughout Thursday evening's road matchup with Rhode Island College, keeping each set competitive before the Anchormen secured a 3-0 victory at The Murray Center.
The Seahawks came out strong in the opening set, recording 12 kills and hitting .111 while keeping Rhode Island College within reach throughout the frame. The Seahawks ultimately fell 25-19, but their offensive pressure set the tone for a competitive night.
The Seahawks continued to challenge RIC in the second set, posting eight kills and five errors while fighting through long rallies. Rhode Island College pulled away late to take the frame, 25-17.
Salve saved its strongest offensive showing for the third set. The Seahawks registered 11 kills while hitting .152 and matched RIC with 11 kills in the frame. Salve remained within striking distance throughout before RIC closed out the match, 25-21.
Lauren Shurling (Hudson, Mass.) led the Seahawks' attack with 11 kills, adding an ace and a block for 13 points. Saige Freitas-Rogers (Taunton, Mass.) delivered seven kills, while Frankie Spadorcia (Braintree, Mass.) contributed five kills on just eight attacks, hitting an impressive .375 for the match.
