BOSTON, Mass. — The Salve Regina University women's volleyball team battled Emerson on Tuesday night, but the Seahawks came up short in a 3-0 decision at Brown & Plofker Gym in NEWMAC competition.
Salve opened the match with a strong fight in the first set, keeping Emerson within reach before falling 25-22. The Seahawks continued to battle in the second set, but Emerson pulled away for a 25-16 victory. Salve again pushed in the third, ultimately dropping the final frame 25-20.
Anouk Jansen led the Seahawks offensively with eight kills on 23 attacks, while Lauren Shurling added seven kills and hit .200 for the match. Jenna DeFrancesco contributed three kills, with Abby McRoy and Frankie Spadorcia adding two apiece.
Salve's offense was directed by Kate Andy and Kalena Stavish, who combined for 20 assists. Stavish also provided a strong all-around effort with three service aces, four digs and a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage on her lone attack. Andy added an ace and four digs.
The Seahawks also received steady defensive contributions throughout the night. Lily Dobbins recorded six digs, while Madelyn Homer, Kate Andy and Kalena Stavish each finished with four. Salve totaled 30 digs and seven service aces as a team.
At the net, Spadorcia led Salve with three block assists, while McRoy and DeFrancesco each added two. The Seahawks finished with 10 block assists overall.
ON THE HORIZON:
On Saturday, October 3, at 1 p.m. the Seahawks will host the Wellesley College Blue at Rodgers Recreation Center at 1 p.m. to celebrate Fall Festival Weekend.
