PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Salve Regina University women's volleyball team saw two competitive matches Saturday at the hosting Johnson & Wales' Wildcat Center on Saturday after the team slipped 3-2 in a close five-setter to Union College and came up shy 3-1 against Manhattanville University.
MATCHUP ONE:
Final: Union College 3, Salve Regina 2
Records: Salve Regina (0-3,0-0 NEWMAC), Union (2-0,0-0 Liberty League)
Union opened the match with a 25-16 win, but Salve Regina quickly responded in the second. The Seahawks found their rhythm offensively, recording 15 kills while holding Union to a .048 hitting percentage. Salve pulled even with a convincing 25-21 victory, shifting the momentum.
Seahawk women's volleyball produced their best offensive performance of the match in the fourth set, recording 18 kills while hitting an impressive .265. The Seahawks fought through a back-and-forth set and came away with a thrilling 26-24 victory, sending the match to a winner-take-all fifth set.
Lauren Shurling (Hudson, Mass.) led the Seahawks with a dominant 22 kills, while Anouk Jansen (Queen Creek, Ariz.) added 19 kills in another strong offensive showing. Frankie Spadorcia (Braintree, Mass.) contributed ten kills and four blocks, while Jenna DeFrancesco (Branford, Conn.) anchored the defense at the net with a team-high five blocks.

Final: Manhattanville 3, Salve Regina 1

The Seahawks came out with their best offensive stretch of the afternoon in the third set, recording 10 kills while holding Manhattanville to just six kills and a -.091 hitting percentage. Salve also limited the Valiants to six points on the attack and pulled away for a convincing 25-20 third-set victory.
Shurling paced the Seahawks offensively with 12 kills, while Jansen added ten kills and Spadorcia contributed nine. Spadorcia was particularly effective at the net, finishing with a team-high four blocks, while Jansen added two blocks. Cecelia Bronson (St. Paul, Minn.) also made her presence felt with two blocks.
