NEWPORT, R.I. - Sophomore Travis Masters (Annapolis, Md.) scored his first goal of the season midway through the second half to propel No. 5 seed Gordon College to a 1-0 win over the No. 4 seed Salve Regina University men's soccer team in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Quarterfinal action Saturday afternoon at Reynolds Field.

The win marks the second win this week for Gordon against the Seahawks, and it advances to the TCCC Semifinals to face No. 1 seed Western New England on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The Seahawks finish their season 11-7-1.

The Scots scored the only goal of the contest at 68:23 when sophomore Jeff Spurance (Ledyard, Conn.) sent a cross from the right side of the field to Masters, who knocked the ball into a wide-open left side of the net. Senior goalkeeper Kurt Ginthwain (Tolland, Conn.) - who finished with two saves - appeared to come out and try to intercept the cross, but the ball was played over him and to Masters, who was left with an empty net to shoot at.

"Gordon is a very good side and today, they were the better team," said Seahawk head coach Craig O'Rourke II. "I take my hat off to them. Jake (DeClute) has done great things with that program since arriving there. They made it very difficult for us to produce many quality chances at their net as they aggressively doubled-and tripled-teamed several of our attacking players when we had the ball. I thought Kurt was brilliant for us in the first half as he made two very big saves that kept us level. And when we started the second half with the wind at our backs, I had every confidence that my side would produce the result today. But alas, it was not to be. Now we will take some time to reflect on this season, honor our seniors and award winners, and start to prepare for the 2010 season."

Sophomore Sean McAllister (North Arlington, N.J.) recorded a team-high six shots for the Seahawks, who outshot the Scots 15-10 on the afternoon. Freshman goalkeeper Ryan Coil (Brentwood, Tenn.) made three saves to earn his seventh win of the season.
