Seahawks start strong in TCCC with 1-0 win against Pilgrims

HENNIKER, N.H. - Salve Regina University's Ken Johnson (Colonia, N.J.) netted the game-winner with just under 20 minutes remaining in regulation to lift the Seahawks past the New England College Pilgrims 1-0 Saturday afternoon in Henniker. 

 

With the win the Seahawks even their overall record at 2-2-0 and improve to 1-0-0 in TCCC play. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 2-2-0 on the season and 0-1-0 in the conference.

 

The two teams battled evenly through much of the opening half of play. The two teams combined for five shots on net in the opening minutes but neither team got off a shot in the final 25 minutes of the half, heading into halftime knotted at 0-0.

 

Johnson broke the scoring drought at the 71:50 mark as he scored the eventual game-winner off a nice pass through the middle from Tony Lania (Concord, Mass.).Ginthwain

 

The Pilgrims had an opportunity late as Aaron Kolb (New Durham, N.H.) fired a shot on net in the 79th minute but Seahawk keeper Kurt Ginthwain (Tolland, Conn.) made the save.  NEC recorded three shots wide of the net in the final seven minutes as Salve Regain held on for the 1-0 victory.

 

The Pilgrims finished the afternoon with the slight advantage in shots leading the Seahawks 12-11.

 

Ginthwain recorded five saves to earn th win in net for Salve Regina.  In net for NEC was Pat Harkin (Scituate, R.I.) who finished with six saves.
