Box Score

NEWPORT, R.I. - Sophomore Lindsay Shorey (Ashland, Mass.) scored a game-high 19 points and junior Erin Phillips (Morristown, N.J.) added 12 points to lead the Salve Regina University women's basketball team to a 64-48 win over Western New England College Saturday afternoon in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action at Rodgers Recreation Center.

Junior Olivia Browning (Trumbull, Conn.) chipped in with seven points and nine rebounds as the Seahawks (9-7, 4-1 TCCC) won for the fourth time in their last five outings. Senior Kailah Al-Darraji (Dover, N.H.) and freshman Elena Radzikowski (Medway, Mass.) led the Golden Bears (10-5, 3-2 TCCC) with 10 points each.

The Seahawks connected on 15-of-34 field goal attempts (44.1 pct.) in the first half and held a 32-20 lead at the half. The contest was tied at 12 eight minutes into the contest before Salve Regina closed the frame on a 20-8 run, led by six points each from juniors Kim Horan (Webster, Mass.) and Victoria Audet (Broad Brook, Conn.). Freshman Emily Savino (Ellington, Conn.) paced WNEC with six points in the first half.

Salve Regina stretched its lead to 22 points (45-23) five minutes into the second half following a basket by freshman Sarah Averill (Newfields, N.H.), and the lead never dipped below 16 points as nine different student-athletes scored for the Seahawks.

"This is the best overall game we have played this season," said Salve Regina head coach Cori Hughes. "We received contributions from a lot of different places, and not necessarily the usual places. I thought that Victoria played awesome, and Sarah Averill did very well in her first start filling in for her sister. I'm just ecstatic about the way we played."

Audet finished with eight points, two rebounds and two assists while Averill scored four points. For Western New England, freshman Shelby Van Huysen (Killingsworth, Conn.) scored nine points while sophomore Sarah Proper (Coxsackie, N.Y.) tallied eight points and snared a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Seahawks return to action on Thursday when they travel to Wentworth for a 5:30 pm contest. Western New England travels to Nichols for an 8 p.m. contest next Tuesday.
