McAllister, Audet propel Seahawks to 2-0 win over Johnson & Wales

Box Score

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Junior Sean McAllister (North Arlington, N.J.) tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Salve Regina University men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Johnson & Wales University in non-conference action Thursday night at Gaudet Field.

Senior Trevor Audet (Duxbury, Vt.) scored his first goal of the season for the Seahawks (10-3-1), who ran their win streak to four while posting their third-consecutive shutout. Senior Joe Ferraro (Freehold, N.J.) made seven saves for the Wildcats (2-10-1), who saw their losing skid reach four games.

Audet opened the scoring at 9:01 when he knocked home a corner kick from McAllister. The game remained 1-0 until late in the second half when McAllister took a pass from classmate Max Starace (Fort Lee, N.J.) and deposited his 10th goal of the season into the lower right corner of the net.

Sophomore Devin O'Gorman (Canton, Mass.) made one save to improve to 8-2-1 on the season. Freshman Matthew Sweeney (Eden Prairie, Minn.) played the second half for Salve Regina and did not record a save. The best save of the evening came from Ferraro, who made a diving save to his right on a shot by Audet 12 minutes into the second half to keep his team within a goal of tying the match.

The Seahawks outshot the Wildcats 15-5 and held an 11-1 edge in corner kicks. Junior Stefano Margo (Frankfort, N.Y.) led JWU with three shots.

"I'm happy with this result as I thought we did the things that we needed to do in order to win tonight," said Seahawks head coach Craig O'Rourke II. "Johnson & Wales is a much better side then its record indicates, and I thought we came out a little flat in the opening few minutes. I honestly believe that we underestimated them, but then the goal by Trevor off of the corner kick seemed to wake us up. We started to possess the ball more and get forward with some pace and urgency. I thought Audet was excellent tonight and probably could have had another goal if he finished one more of his chances. He, along with (Patrick) Charland, (Jacob) Brigandi, and Starace were the difference makers in our uniform tonight."

The Seahawks return to action on Saturday when they host New England College at Brother Michael Reynolds Field at 3:30 p.m. Prior to the contest, Salve Regina will honor its four senior - Audet, James Dean (Colonia, N.J.), Billy Carroll (W. Gilgo Beach, N.Y.), and Ken Johnson (Colonia, N.J.). The Wildcats host Emerson at 1 p.m.
