Box Score FITCHBURG, Mass. – Fitchburg State and Salve Regina University played to a 0-0 double overtime draw in non-conference men's soccer action at Elliot Field on Thursday evening.
With the draw, Fitchburg State's record holds at 2-7-2 (0-3-0 MASCAC), while Salve Regina posts a 9-2-1 record and a 4-0-0 mark in the CCC.
After a pair of scoreless periods, Salve Regina seemingly dominated the two ten minute overtime frames, holding a 6-1 advantage in shots. But Falcon goalkeeper Aidan Hanratty (E. Bridgewater, Mass.) made a pair of sprawling saves off shots from senior Bobby Ernst (Needham, Mass.) and freshman Andrew Chenard (Kingston, Mass.) to preserve the tie.
In the closing minutes of regulation, Fitchburg State nearly broke the 0-0 stalemate as junior Carmen Bordonaro (Saugus, Mass.) was able to maneuver around Seahawk goalie Jeffrey L'Heureux (Litchfield, N.H.) but sophomore Evan Thomas (Mohnton, Penn.) made a game saving team-save to send the game into overtime.
Throughout the contest, Salve Regina controlled the offensive front, outshooting Fitchburg State 22-11, while holding a 10-7 margin in corners. Between the pipes, Hanratty registered 12 saves in the complete game effort for the Falcons, while L'Heureux stopped five shots for Salve Regina en-route to his second shutout of the season.
Fitchburg State (2-7-2, 0-3-0 MASCAC) will be back in action on Saturday as it hosts MCLA at 6 p.m. Salve Regina (9-2-1, 4-0-0 CCC) returns to action on Saturday as it travels to the University of New England at 3:30 p.m.
