NEWPORT, R.I. – The Endicott College men's tennis team swept doubles play on their way to a 7-2 victory over Salve Regina University on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Seahawks to 0-10 overall and 0-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), while the Gulls improve to 4-6 with the win, including a 1-0 mark during CCC play.
The Gulls started the afternoon by sweeping all three doubles matches. Juniors Oliver Joggi (Stoneham, Mass.) and Ben Randlett (Middlebury, Vt.) battled for an 8-5 victory over Salve Regina's Zachary Rosenfeld (Easton, Conn.) and Aaron Isch (Tolland, Conn.) in No. 1 doubles action, while junior Jake Cohen (Barrington, RI.) and freshman Eric Gandrup (Sudbury, Mass.) earned an 8-2 win from the No. 2 doubles slot. Senior Porter Williams Raleigh, N.C.) and freshman Timothey Forance (Natick, Mass.) completed the sweep with an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles.
The Seahawks fought back with victories at both No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Zachary Rosenfeld earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Williams in No. 1 singles, while Isch defeated Joggi 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 2 singles slot.
However, the Gulls took the remaining four singles matches to earn the 7-2 victory. Cohen defeated sophomore Colin Gunning (Norwell, Mass.) 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, while Randlett and freshman Justin Warshavsky (East Hartford, Conn.) each earned 6-1, 6-1 victories at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. At the No. 6 singles position, Forance won in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 over Salve Regina freshman Mike Gallerani (Fairfield, Conn.).
The Gulls take to the courts again on Wednesday, traveling to face Clark at 3:30 p.m., while the Seahawks hit the road to face Gordon in a CCC match starting at 1 p.m.
