Gulls sweep Seahawks

BEVERLY, Mass.- With just two Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matches remaining in the men's tennis regular season, Endicott claimed an emphatic 9-0 win over Salve Regina in their final tune-up before a big match against cross-town rival Gordon on Saturday.  The Gulls now sit at 9-6 (5-2) on the season while the Seahawks fall to 3-12 (1-6). Endicott hosts Gordon on Saturday with a start time of 12 p.m. while Salve Regina travels to Eastern Nazarene for a 1 p.m. start.

The hosts saw freshman Christopher Kirkpatrick (Newburyport, Mass.) continue his impressive rookie campaign as he won both his doubles and singles matches without dropping a single point.  Kirkpatrick teamed with Michael Dolph (Stratford, Conn.) to win 8-0 at #1 doubles over Salve's Matthew Carroll (Hackensack, N.J.) and Donovan Gangewere (Exton, Pa.) before dispatching Gangewere 6-0, 6-0 in #1 singles play.  Dolph was also strong in singles play, taking down Carroll 6-2, 6-0 at #2 singles.

Seniors Michael Lauretano (Winchester, Mass.) and Justin Warshavsky (East Hartford, Conn.) teamed up for an 8-3 win at #2 doubles over the Seahawk's duo of Monaf Awwa (Old Lyme, Conn.) and Will Masse (Wyoming, R.I.) while Nicholas Eherts (New Milford, Conn.) and Eric Gandrup (Sudbury, Mass.) claimed an 8-1 win over Matt Gingras (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Kevin Brocks (West Sand Lake, N.Y.) at #3 doubles to complete the sweep of doubles play.

Lauretano was able to take a 6-2, 6-0 decision at #3 singles as sophomore Sean McAndrews (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) played well at #4 singles, taking down Masse by straight set scores of 6-1, 6-0.  Freshman Matthew Doherty (Plymouth, Mass.) and junior Tyler Lemieux (New Hartford, Conn.) claimed #5 and #6 singles respectively, winning by scores of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-4, 6-0 to complete the 9-0 Endicott victory.

With the win, Endicott moves to 9-6 on the year overall and 5-2 in CCC play and currently sit in a tie for third place with Gordon as the two teams get set to square off on Saturday to close the regular season.  Salve Regina, now 3-12 overall and 1-6 in CCC play, travels to Eastern Nazarene on Saturday, a team that is currently 3-4 in CCC play and in fifth place in a tie for fifth in the standings.
