Summary
NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University sophomore Torie Scorpio (Cranston, R.I.) led all players with 16 points on seven of nine shooting from the floor propelling the Seahawks to a 67-55 victory over Eastern Nazarene College in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball opener for both schools. The Seahawks outscored the Lions in every quarter except the third, with a seven-point gap in the second quarter giving the hosts a 33-25 lead at the half. Salve Regina held a 39-31 edge in rebounding.

Salve Regina leads the all-time series, 37-11, and ends a two-game losing skid at the Rodgers Recreation Center against Eastern Nazarene. Salve Regina has won the last two meetings with Eastern Nazarene; the Seahawks and Lions will meet again in Quincy, Mass., on January 24, 2018.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Salve Regina sophomore Torie Scorpio (Cranston, R.I.) scored a game-high 16 points on 7-of-9 from the floor including making both of her 3-point attempts, both in the second half. Scorpio added two steals and three rebounds.
  2. Salve Regina senior Mary Eden (South Kingstown, R.I.) made two of three 3-point attempts for her six points while dishing out nine assists and contributing five steals and six rebounds.
  3. Eastern Nazarene junior Tia Torio (Manteca, Calif.) had a team-high 11 points on 3-of-5 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the line. She also had five rebounds.
