Three Stars of the Day
1 – Eastern Conn. senior Carly Balskus (Heron, Conn.) knocked in a day-high 30 kills between her two matches, including 21 versus the Seahawks.
2 – Salve Regina freshman Madison Lee (Dover, Fla.) led the Seahawks offense with 23 total kills on the day and four service aces.
3 – UMass senior Kristy Walton (Fairhaven, Mass.) paced the Corsairs scoring with 20 total kills on the day.
Senior Moment
Megan Parham, Erin Proctor, Sydney Puffer, Cassidy Trabilcy, Paige Tully, and Kendall Wilcox comprise the Seahawks Class of 2019. All six seniors were joined by family on the court for a special pregame ceremony.
Megan's Milestone
Megan Parham becomes the seventh player in program history to reach the 1,000 dig milestone. She now has 1,001 career digs in her Seahawks career after registering 30 from today's action.
Turning Points
In the first match the Seahawks and Warriors alternated set wins leading to a fifth and deciding set. In the fifth, the Seahawks held match-point after a kill from Madison Lee gave them a 14-12 edge. The Warriors answered with a quick 3-0 spurt to take their first lead of the set forcing the Seahawks to call for time. After the timeout a Lauren Notholt kill put the match away for the Warriors to complete a comeback win.
In the second match the Warriors led 2-1 and 14-7 in the fourth set before the Corsairs used an 8-0 run to take a 15-14 lead. The Warriors answered with a 5-0 burst of their own to retake the lead for good. The Corsairs were able to fend off match-point with a kill from Walton to make it 24-23, but Anna Barry (Andover, Conn.) powered home her match-high 11th kill to deliver the victory for the Warriors, who went 2-0 on the day.
In the third and final match the Seahawks never trailed in the first and second sets versus the Corsairs. In the third, UMass battled to take an early 7-6 lead after an Amanda LaCroix (East Freetown, Mass.) service ace. Salve Regina answered with a 6-0 run capped by a Megan Parham ace. The Corsairs were able to inch back within two points, 13-11, but could never get closer as the Seahawks closed the set and the match on an 12-6 run.
Next up
Salve Regina (18-8, 4-2 CCC) hosts Roger Williams on Tuesday, October 23 at 7 p.m. in a Commonwealth Coast Conference showdown. Eastern Connecticut State (18-6) hosts Albertus Magnus that same day at 7 p.m., while UMass Dartmouth (9-15) hosts UMass Boston at 7 p.m.
