No. 9 Babson escapes with a 1-0 win against Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. — Senior Louis Gazo broke a scoreless deadlock in the 84th minute to lift No. 9 Babson College to a 1-0 win over Salve Regina University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer action on Saturday evening at Toppa Field.

With the win, Babson extended its unbeaten streak to four games and improved to 8-3-2 overall and 3-0-0 in conference play. Salve Regina has dropped three straight matches to slip to 5-7-0 overall and 0-3-0 in the NEWMAC.

First-year Alexander Yablonovskiy picked up an assist and junior goalkeeper Walker White made six saves, all in the first half, to record his seventh shutout of the season for the Beavers.

Junior Aidan Figueira (Cumberland, R.I.) turned away five shot for the Seahawks, who were blanked for the third game in a row.

  • White made his best save of the game in the 26th minute stepping off his line to push senior Jordan Borges' (Milford, Mass.) header over the crossbar and out of danger following a free kick.
  • Sophomore Aaron Muncaster's (Oakdale, Conn.) 25-yard rocket went off the outside of the left post in the 27th minute and classmate Ben Tomas (Danbury, Conn.) saw his bid to open the scoring sail just over the crossbar in the 42nd minute.
