NEWPORT, R.I. -- (Friday, October 11, 2024)-- The Salve Regina University Women's volleyball team hindered the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Engineers 3-0 in a mid-season NEWMAC game Friday night at the Rodgers Recreation Center.
Salve got an early 2-6 lead over WPI in set one and the Engineers never quite caught up. In the second set the Seahawks posted the first three points thanks to a pair of kills by Lauren Shurling and Lauren Hoyle and a service ace from Lily Dobbins. Salve Regina added two four-point runs to close out set two 25-17. Women's volleyball only had to win one more set to get the job done going into set three and they did just that, scoring seven consecutive points mid-set. Lucy Swanson made the final kill of the day securing Salve's 25-19 margin.

History: Since 2011 the Seahawks are 1-7 against the Engineers. On October 10, 2023, WPI defeated Salve Regina 3-2 at their home court in Worcester, Massachusetts.

"We played very well as a team today and we were all very supportive of each other which helped us mesh together," said sophomore libero Lily Dobbins. "We did a very good job of playing as six people on a team instead of six individuals. That really showed on the court and in the outcome of the game. As a team we're doing a lot better than last season in terms of our record in the NEWMAC so this win is gonna be really good going into our next few conference games."
ON THE HORIZON:
Next Tuesday, October 15, Smith College will host Salve Regina in a 6 p.m. NEWMAC match in Northampton, Massachusetts.
