Kennedy's opening goal leads to senior day 5-2 success

Salve Regina sits at 11-3, 4-2 in the NEWMAC

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. -- (Saturday, October 19, 2024)-- Salve Regina University field hockey's Shannon Kennedy netted the team's first goal five minutes into Saturday's NEWMAC game against the visiting Mount Holyoke College Lyons, which set in motion three consecutive Seahawk goals and ended the day 5-2 in favor of Salve Regina.

Angelina Regels fed Kennedy the ball from just outside the shooting circle, allowing the graduate student who had closer proximity to the Lyons goalie to sink the team's first goal. Linnea Alsted found the back of the net after the Seahawks were up 3-0. Alsted sent the ball in high immediately following a penalty corner by the Lyons.

Field hockey celebrated senior day by honoring two graduate students, Shannon Kennedy and Lauren Foster, along with four seniors, Kira Spedden, Bryn Protheroe, Maggie Hansen and Izzy Mastino.
