Clark, Endicott command Seahawk tri-match


NEWPORT, R.
I. -- (Saturday, October 5, 2024)-- In their second home tri-match of the season Salve Regina University women's volleyball fell 3-0 to in conference NEWMAC foe Clark University and former conference rival, from the CCC, Endicott College. 

In game one, against Clark, the cougars clinched the first 3 points of the day and it stuck. In set one, the closest margin was a 12-12 tie before Clark went on to win 25-20.

Against the Gulls, Salve gave up an early lead to Endicott in set one but in sets two and three the Seahawks and Gulls battled back and forth. With the teams tied at 16 in the third set Endicott's six point run is what made the difference in the match.


INSIDE MATCHUP ONE:

Final: Clark 3, Salve Regina 0
Records: Salve Regina (5-9,2-2 NEWMAC), Clark (8-6,2-2 NEWMAC)
History: Salve Regina is 1-5 against the Cougars all-time. 2023 was the last meeting and Clark won 3-0.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Lucy Swanson had the highest hitting percentage of any Seahawk with .292. Anouk Jansen followed Swanson's lead with a .286 percentage.
  • The Cougars outdid the Seahawks in the kill category with 34 to Salve Regina's 24.
  • Clark's largest run of six consecutive points came in the third set, elevating them from trailing Salve Regina by one to a 10-5 lead.
  • Salve Regina had two four-point runs, one in the first and one in the last set.

Records: Salve Regina (5-10,2-2 NEWMAC), Endicott (11-5,3-0 CNE)
History: Salve Regina and Endicott have a long history after playing together in the CCC (now CNE) for many years. The Seahawks are 4-27 all-time against the Gulls.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Lauren Hoyle had ten kills, which combined with her nine from the Clark game gave her 19 across six sets.
  • Lucy Swanson (9) and Lydia Daskalos (6) also led the team, rounding out the top three in the kill category.
  • Kate Bernhardt posted three blocks. 
  • Kalena Stavish had a game high 12 assists and Lucy Swanson saw 11 digs.
  • The Seahawks ended the match with a .213 hitting percentage.

QUOTING COACH NOORDZY ON X:

"We always try to schedule tough at Salve to prepare us for the highest level volleyball possible so to add a top CNE team in Endicott to our tough NEWMAC opponent in Clark, really tested us. We'll use it as a learning experience to get better for the last full month of our season  before postseason play." 

ON THE HORIZON:

On Tuesday, October 8, at 7 p.m. women's volleyball hosts Regis College at 7 p.m. at the Rodgers Recreation Center.
