Seahawks outshine Beacons 7-1

Salve Regina is 2-0 in the NEHC

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (Sunday, November 10, 2024)-- Junior Jonathan Hammel scored a pair of goals in the third period to raise Salve Regina University 7-1 over the visiting UMass Boston Beacons in NEHC competition.

Matthew Brunton got the scoring going for Salve Regina when he received a pass from defender Hoon Kim on the left side and slid the puck in from right in front of the net. Max Jaldung and Aidan Elkins scored their first collegiate goals, adding to the tally. Jaldung netted his first goal in the Seahawk uniform by dodging Beacon defenders and nearly avoiding a trip by the opponent right in front of the net

Salve Regina already had a 3-0 lead with 20 minutes gone from the clock. The visitor found one opportunity to score in the first minute of period two with an extra skater advantage that carried over from the final minutes of the first period. Jack Mortson's slap shot made it to the cage from the right face off dot.

The Seahawks solidified their lead with three goals in the third period, two from Hammel and one off the stick of Logan Calder. Both of Hammel's accomplishments were power play goals.
