MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (Saturday, November 23, 2024)-- No. 14 Salve Regina University men's ice hockey did not let yesterday's 4-0 loss to the reigning national champions No. 1 Hobart College deter them from challenging the visitor through 60 minutes of action. After
Arvega Hovsepyan tied the game at 2-2, with eight minutes to go in regulation Hobart's Tanner Daniels scored his second goal of the evening to inch the Statesmen ahead 3-2.Â

NOTEWORTHY:
- Daniels, who got the Statesmen on the board, also scored the game-winning goal.Â
- The Seahawks first goal against Hobart came at 4:38 in the second period. After a scramble in front of the net Logan Calder and Jonathan Hammel fed the puck to Walter Bauman on the wing who sent a slap shot from the left face off dot over the shoulder of Hobart's Mavrick Goyer.Â
- The teams entered the third period at a 1-1 tie. It appeared to swing in Hobart's favor when Brandon Sacchetti scored but Hovsepyan found the back of the net three minutes later.Â
- Daniels scored the game winning goal short handed. After a shot attempt and rebound when Quinn Tavares blocked the shot, Daniels was able to convert from the slot.
- Cayden Bailey made 51 saves, which combined with yesterday's 49 saves give him 100 total this weekend.Â
THOUGHTS FROM COACH KLANN
"Any time you play a team that has won back to back national championships you know that they have a certain swagger to them. There were times that we outplayed them. It was back and forth last night. They capitalized on some chances that we didn't and to reset and come back tonight and battle to the end with them shows that we can skate with anybody in the country. For us it's about getting healthy. There was no hardware to be won this weekend-- it was more dialing it in and playing as a group. I think we did that. If we can tighten the bolts on a couple things I think we can have a very successful year. We're the only team to play within a goal of them so the future is bright for us. We need to take this as a learning weekend that we can play with anybody. It's a game of mistakes and we need to start limiting those and force others to make them instead."
ON THE HORIZON
The men's ice hockey team will next play on Sunday, December 1, on the road at non-conference Connecticut College at 3 p.m.
