  • Freshman Adonis Santiago has emerged as the team's primary goalkeeper while logging over 940 minutes in 11 games (nine starts).
  • Santiago has a .738 save percentage (31 saves) and 1.04 goals against average (11 goals allowed).

SCOUTING THE BEARS
  • Third-seeded Coast Guard battled sixth-seeded Emerson in the first round of the 2024 NEWMAC Men's Soccer Championship.
  • Just two minutes into the battle, junior attacker Aki Freeman gave the Bears an early 1-0 lead.
  • Freeman hammered the ball into the back of the net off a pass from Andres Villasana.
  • The Bears team leader in goals, Aki Freeman beat the only defender between himself and the goalkeeper and sent a point blank shot past the diving Lions goalkeeper to knot the score at 2-2.
  • Jack Lopez sending a picture perfect pass towards Cole Miller, which Miller sent screaming into the back of the Emerson net for an overtime playoff victory and birth in the NEWMAC Semifinals.
  • Freeman leads the Bears with nine goals, four assists, and 22 points. He has five game-winning goals for Coast Guard.
  • John Putnam has started 15 of 19 games in goal for the Bears and logged 1337 minutes with 21 goals against (1.41 GAA) and 62 saves (.747 save percentage).
STRIKING EARLY
  • Coast Guard has outscored its opponents in first-half action (17-7) while Salve Regina has given up two more goals in the first 45 (14-12) and has a three-goal advantage in the second 45 (17-14).
TOURNAMENT TESTED
  • While this is Salve Regina's first foray into NEWMAC postseason, the Seahawks had recent success in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (now Conference of New England) with back-to-back title game appearances in 2019 (defeated Endicott in overtime) and 2021 (lost to Gordon in overtime) with 2020 canceled due to the pandemic.
  • Through its last CCC postseason game in 2022 (a 0-0 draw at Suffolk with the Rams advancing on PKs), Salve Regina is 28-25-6 all-time in conference playoff action.
  • From 2012 through 2014, the Seahawks were undefeated in CCC postseason. They won the title in 2012 (three victories at home) and had consecutive scoreless draws against Roger Williams (2013 at home) and Endicott (2014 on the road).
SPREADING OUT THE SCORING
  • Coast Guard has 13 different players scoring goals in 2024 and Salve Regina has 10 different Seahawks with a goal on the season.
  • Senior captain Ethan David became the 10th different Seahawk goal-scorer when he put in the game-winner against Springfield last Saturday.
STREAKING INTO THE POSTSEASON
  • The Seahawks are unbeaten in their last six home games (4-0-2) and unbeaten in their last six games overall (4-0-2) following a 5-0 loss at Babson on October 12.
  • The Bears ended a two-game skid with their overtime quarterfinal win against the Lions on Tuesday night. They are 3-2-1 in their last six games.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
  • With a win tonight, Salve Regina men's soccer would post double-digit victory totals for the fifth time in the last seven full seasons.
UP NEXT
  • The winner of Thursday's semifinal will face either top-seeded Babson or fifth-seeded Springfield in Saturday's championship game.
