MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (Tuesday, December 10, 2024)-- Salve Regina University men's ice hockey's
Arvega Hovsepyan put Salve Regina in the lead 3:28 into the first period against Wentworth Institute of Technology, but the Leopards went on to tie it up at 2-2 late period two, which eventually sent the teams into overtime and a shootout. While the tie goes in the record book, the Leopards controlled the shootout 2-1.

Records: Salve Regina (5-4-2, 4-4-0 NEHC), Wentworth (4-6-2, 3-4-1 CNE)
History: Men's ice hockey is 15-17-6 against Wentworth with the first game a 1-1 tie on February 10, 2008. The Seahawks have won the last five consecutive meetings. Last year, when the teams were in the same conference together, Salve Regina surpassed Wentworth on four occasions. The last meeting was a 4-2 victory in the first round of the CCC postseason tournament.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Salve gained early momentum when Hovsepyan scored early in the contest. This carried the Seahawks to 11 shots on goal in the first 20 minutes, while the Leopards came in at eight. Wentworth did make it on the board in period one as well when George Kolovos found the back of the net at the 10:27 mark.
- Again, in period two the teams matched each other 1-1 on goals. Aidan Connolly scored early to put the Seahawks ahead 2-1, but Kolovos achieved his second goal of the night with 16:47 gone from the score board.
- Neither team was able to make anything happen in period three, nor in the three-on-three, five-minute overtime. In the shootout Hovsepyan managed to make it past goalie Jack McGovern, however Kolovos and Nikolas Sombrowski slid the puck past Selby Warren in net for a 2-1 shootout win.
- Warren made 22 stops in net while McGovern ended the day with 25 saves.

This is the Seahawks' last game of the semester. Men's ice hockey will play again on Friday, January 3, 2025, on the road at Wesleyan University at 7 p.m.
