Brandeis and Ursinus top Seahawks in first season tri-match

WALTHAM, Mass. -- (Saturday, August 31, 2024)-- In the Seahawks first tri-match of the season the Salve Regina university women's volleyball team fell 3-0 to Brandeis University and Ursinus College.

INSIDE THE MATCHUPS
Final: Brandeis 3, Salve Regina 0
Records: Salve Regina (0-1), Brandeis (1-1)
History: The Seahawks are 1-4 all-time against the Judges. In 2016 Salve Regina served up a 3-2 victory over Brandeis.

Final: Ursinus 3, Salve Regina 0
Records: Salve Regina (0-2), Ursinus (2-1)
History: This is the first meeting of the Seahawks and Bears in volleyball.

NOTEWORTHY v. BRANDEIS:

  • Freshman Lauren Shurling led the Seahawks in kills (10), followed by Lucy Swanson (6) and Lauren Hoyle (3)
  • Siena DeCicco posted 22 assists across three sets.
  • The Seahawks best set was their third set, finishing 25-23 behind the Judges. Thanks to Swanson's service ace and kill together with several attack errors by the Judges Salve Regina went on a five point run at the end of the set, bringing the score to 23-23. The Judges just barely inched ahead, nabbing the last two points for the win.

NOTEWORTHY v. URSINUS:

  • Hoyle saw 12 kills, followed by Swanson and Anouk Jansen, who both had nine.
  • DeCicco and Hoyle both had service aces.
  • DeCicco once again made the most assists across both teams with 33.
  • The first set, a 25-21 final and Salve Regina's strongest, started out with a kill from Hoyle. Salve Regina stayed in the action right until the end, when Bears' Caroline Sherman made the final kill.

QUOTING COACH NOORDZY:
"We're glad to be back playing games and although we didn't get the results we wanted, we played two teams that exposed some of our weaknesses and we're excited to get back into the practice gym to get better!"


ON THE HORIZON:

On Tuesday, September 3, the Seahawks will be at home in the Rodgers Recreation Center at 6:00 p.m. to host Connecticut College.
