Seahawks crush Bears, get swept by Nor'easters

Salve Regina earned their first win of the season against Bridgewater State


BRIDGEWATER, Mass.
-- (Saturday, September 14, 2024)-- Salve Regina University women's volleyball went 1-1, beating Bridgewater State University 3-1, and falling to the University of New England 3-0 after Saturday's tri-match.

INSIDE MATCHUP ONE:

Records: Salve Regina (1-5), Bridgewater State (1-5)
History: Salve Regina has an 8-0 winning record against Bridgewater State. In 2023 the Seahawks won 3-0.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The first set was close until the teams reached double digits, and the Seahawks made a move with a kill from Lauren Hoyle, a service ace by Lily Dobbins and an error on behalf of the Bears which set the tone for the match, making it 25-16 in favor of Salve Regina.
  • The Bears got the best of the Seahawks in set three, but the Seahawks earned the first three points of the day in set four and never looked back.
  • Hoyle had a sizable 17 kills, followed by Lucy Swanson (11) and Lauren Shurling (8).
  • Lydia Daskalos provided two blocks.
  • Siena DeCicco posted 25 assists, while Dobbins made 25 digs.

History: Salve volleyball is 14-4 all-time against the Nor'easters. In 2022, the last time the programs saw each other, the Seahawks won 3-1.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Set one and two yielded a six-point difference of 25-19 with New England in the lead. Set three saw a six-point and five-point run from the Nor'easters which decided the match at 3-0 for UNE.
  • Hoyle led again, with nine blocks followed by Swanson with seven.
  • Cecelia Bronson together with DeCicco and Daskalos were invaluable at the net with three blocks each.

ON THE HORIZON:
On Tuesday, September 17, the Seahawks will be on the road, not too far away, in Bristol, Rhode Island for a 6 p.m. match against Roger Williams University.
