Decker, Regels procure win over Pioneers

The Seahawks stay undefeated at 8-0


NEWPORT, R.I. -- (Saturday, September 28, 2024)-- Julia Decker and Angelina Regels piloted a 4-2 Salve Regina University field hockey win over NEWMAC competitor Smith College with two goals apiece. After this afternoon's win the team from Newport remains undefeated with an 8-0 record.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Salve Regina 4, Smith 2
Records: Salve Regina (8-0, 2-0 NEWMAC), Smith (1-7, 0-2 NEWMAC)
History: The Seahawks are 1-2 all-time against Smith. Last year, when the Salve met Smith for the first time as a NEWMAC institution, the Pioneers won 2-0.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The majority of the scoring happened in the first 15 minutes of action. Julia Decker scored twice in a ten-minute window.
  • Angelina Regels followed Decker up before Smith got on the board with just one minute remaining in the first quarter. It wasn't until quarter three that the score changed when Regels scored once more.
  • The Seahawks outshot the Pioneers 12-8.
  • Bryn Protheroe made six saves over the course of 60 minutes. Protheroe has been the winning goalie for all of the Seahawks successes this season.

Next week field hockey will travel to Eastern Connectiuct State University on Wednesday, October 2, for a 4 p.m. game.
