MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (Friday, January 10, 2025)-- Just 90 seconds into the Salve Regina University men's ice hockey game against New England College the Seahawks netted the first goal of the evening thanks to an unassisted shot from the attack zone face off circle by
Matthew Brunton.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Final: Salve Regina 3, New England College 2
Records: Salve Regina (7-4-3,5-4-0 NEHC), New England College (2-9-1, 1-5-1 NEHC)
History: Since the 2003-24 season men's ice hockey has gone 3-2 against NEC. Last year the Seahawks beat the Pilgrims 9-1 on the road in Henniker, New Hampshire.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Brunton scored early on to set the tone for the NEHC conference game. Jack Herron scored to end the first and Jesper Tarkiainen began the second period short-handed to put NEC ahead 2-1.
- Josh Kroon and Quinn Tavares put a cap on the day's scoring with successes in period two. At defense, Kroon netted his first goal of the season.
- Following a Beacon power play UMass Boston called their goalie off the ice hoping an extra skater could help them pull even but the Seahawks held the Beacons off for a 3-2 final score.
- Goalie Cayden Bailey made 22 saves while NEC's Anthony Beaulieu had 30 stops.
THOUGHTS FROM COACH KLANN:
"For us it was about getting healthy. It's great having
Brendan Kim back. He brings so much veteran presence on the back end. After dealing with injuries, what he's been through in the last year and a half is a testament to his character and how hard he's willing to work. He just got better and better as the game went on. Getting Hammel and Walt Baumann back of injury helps us out. They're high scorers for our team so to get them back in the mix and healthy is a big thing. Going forward we need to keep playing together and tighten the bolts."
ON THE HORIZON
