GORHAM, Maine. (Saturday, January 18, 2025)-- For the second day in a row University of Southern Maine's Matt Sullivan sunk the game winning goal in overtime over Salve Regina men's ice hockey to end the game 3-2.

Kaiden Kanderka pulled Salve Regina even at 2-2 before the period clock expired. When Salve Regina was called for a penalty in overtime, the three-on-two skater advantage gave the Huskies what they needed to score.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Unlike yesterday the excitement began in the first 20 minutes when Huskies' Isaac Grondin converted just 13 seconds into play.
- With a snipe from the blue line Josh Kroon tied the game 1-1 after receiving the puck from Damon Zimmer with two minutes down in the game.
- Regulation was a back and forth affair. The Huskies advanced 2-1 nine minutes into the second period.
- The goal that sent the game to overtime came off the stick of Logan Calder when he scored off a rebounded shot right in front of the net.
- For the second day in a row Matt Sullivan was the overtime goal scorer to give Southern Maine a sudden victory 3-2 win.
- The Seahawks launched off more shots on goal but struggled to execute, forcing Kyle Penton to make 44 saves. In net for the Seahawks, Cayden Bailey made 31 stops.
- In total the Seahawks saw six minor penalties while the Huskies were called on five infractions.
- Southern Maine takes away a 2-0 NEHC series win after two 3-2OT wins.
ON THE HORIZON
Next week men's ice hockey is at home on Saturday, January 25 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, January 26, at 3:30 p.m. when they host Albertus Magnus College. In conjunction with Newport Mental health men's ice hockey will host the annual mental health awareness game on January 25. All funds raised go toward advancing Newport Mental Health's mission of providing behavioral health services to everyone who lives, works, or studies in Newport County.
