INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Final
: VTSU Castleton 2, Salve Regina 0
Records: Salve Regina (9-8-0,7-3-0 NEHC), VTSU Castleton (6-9-1,3-6-1 NEHC)
History: Yesterday Salve Regina beat Castleton 4-1 with a pair of early goals from Samantha McKenzie. Gina Richard and Shannon Aube scored in the second period to contribute to the win. Aube achieved her first NCAA goal.

NOTEWORTHY
  • It took 35 minutes for any scoring to happen but when it did Castleton's Mikayla Brightman netted her first goal of the season at the 14:17 mark in the second period. Brightman took advantage of a tripping penalty on the Seahawks and a five-on-four situation.
  • Annika Nelson drove in another goal at 10:55 in the third period when she scored off a rebounded save following a shot from teammate Rachel McNeil at the attack zone face off circle.
  • Sydney Baxter had 24 saves. The most shots-on-net she faced was nine in period one.
  • Spartan's Victoria Bakopanos made 35 saves in her first shutout of the season. In the first two periods the Seahawks posted ten shots on net and ramped it up to 15 for the final period but were unable to follow through.
THOUGHTS FROM COACH LUN
"Sydney Baxter had a good game. She gave us an opportunity. Morgan Peritz had good game too. I thought our third and fourth lines were consistent. Last night was last night. Tonight is tonight, and it was a tighter game. I think we missed some opportunities. Some of our kids failed to show up-- whether it's tired or just not sharp mentally. We can't afford to be passengers. We're still growing, we'll figure it out. We're back in the saddle next weekend. We've got Elmira and we're going to have to figure out a way to win a game like that."

ON THE HORIZON

Next week on Friday, January 24, women's ice hockey hosts Elmira College at 3 p.m. at the Cabot-Harman Ice Center, live on FloCollege.
